Check out 29 Fresh Cards from Magic: The Gathering's TMNT Expansion (Including a Commander-Style Precon Deck!)
The world's beloved pizza-eating heroes are making their way to Magic: The Gathering. The well-known trading card game's company, Wizards of the Coast, revealed a much-awaited Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles expansion at a special panel hosted at New York Comic Con. Could this be a radical addition or yet another Universes Beyond marketing move? We'll let you decide.
Check out below at all the details announced from the Magic x Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration, including key context. Everything listed below releases on March 6, 2026, except for one item — the Pizza Bundle arrives a few weeks later on March 27th.
MTG x TMNT: Main Set Reveals
Before diving into the many unique products and collections on offer, we’ll examine at all the cards from the core Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles set that were revealed by Wizards. Play boosters for the expansion are priced at $6.99 per pack, while Collector Boosters should run $37.99 per pack.
Let's unpack a few surprising details. First, there's a new mechanic called Sneak Attack, which is a riff on the pre-existing Ninjutsu ability, in which players can cheat big creatures into the battlefield whenever an attacker isn’t blocked. The big difference in this case is that this new ability can apply to non-creature spells too. Wizards also used this chance to clean up the mechanic a bit (Sneak counts as casting, unlike Ninjutsu). The original ability is staying, but it's more likely players will encounter the new mechanic in future sets from now on.
Should we go back to Kamigawa, we might use Ninjutsu since that plane is it originated and it is iconic to that,” a senior designer stated. “But on other planes, since the rules are cleaner and the new ability is what's going to be in standard, it's more likely we’ll use Sneak.”
Another version of the leader Turtle, Sewer Samurai, is one of four cards with unique artwork created exclusively for the expansion by Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman.
Additionally, if you're shocked by the card text on Turtles Forever card, which allows playing game cards outside of your main deck, many players were. Yet as per the developers, it’s now a official card in all formats of Magic.
Anyway, below are the highly unusual full-art lands from this set:
As per the company’s existing guidelines, these cards are fully legal in Magic’s Standard format. Developers say they took care to make sure the cards and mechanics meshed well with current Standard expansions like Edge of Eternities.
“I led the design for over a year and we were aware it was going to be in standard and which sets would be alongside it in Standard,” the designer says. “We designed to make sure that there's synergy with certain expansions including Edge of Eternities.”
As an instance, each of TMNT and Edge of Eternities feature a blue-red strategy built around artifact cards.
“They combine to provide the pieces for a enjoyable Standard-legal deck,” he says.
Preconstructed Commander: Turtle Power
Following a decision to create any Commander precons for the Spider-Man set and the forthcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender expansions, Wizards is reversing course with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This time it’s just a single precon, but it does come with six distinct legendary cards who could work as your Commander based on how you pair them (five of the cards include a unique partner ability named “Character Select” that allows starting with two commanders in the command area rather than just one). Take a look for yourself:
This Commander deck is set at $69.99, though the price may rise based on demand. Sources told that it includes 43 brand-new cards in total, which means an extra thirty-seven Turtle-themed game cards besides the six legendary commanders pictured above. (Calculating roughly, that also means approximately 20 reprints if we assume the deck comes with 37 land cards.)
How will the TMNT edition of the iconic Sol Ring look like? We’ll just have to wait and find out.
Standard Bundle (Regular)
Typically, the company is selling a bundle. This one costs $69.99 and contains the following:
- 9 Standard Boosters
- 15 Traditional foil basic lands
- Fifteen Non-foil land cards
- 2 Reference cards
- One Foil promotional card
- One Oversized spindown life counter
- One storage box
Pizza Bundle
This is a special idea for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles collaboration, mostly in that it comes in what looks like a pizza box. Each Pizza Bundle is priced at $99.99 and comes with the following:
- Nine Play Boosters
- One Collector Booster
- 25 Non-foil pizza lands
- 5 Foil pizza basic lands
- 2 Traditional foil Pizza Bundle promotional cards
- 2 helper cards
- 1 Oversized life tracker
- 1 Card-storage box
If you’re wondering about the “Pizza Bundle promo card” means, it’s basically a reprinted older card with all-new TMNT artwork. The team revealed an example for the popular Magic card Dark Ritual depicting master Splinter sprinkling toppings onto a pizza. In total, there are six distinct Pizza Bundle promo cards in total.
The Pizza Bundle launches a few weeks after the core set on March 27, 2026.
Draft Night
This special bundle is designed for a four-person draft and is priced at $119.99. It includes:
- 12 Play Boosters (the perfect amount a group of four to play draft)
- 1 Collector Booster (also known as, the reward for coming in first)
- Ninety Regular basic lands (to build your deck)
- Ten Non-foil double-sided tokens
- One drafting guide (a one-sheet guide to drafting the set)
Cooperative Play Set
Finally, the developers are introducing a new concept with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as part of its continued initiative to develop Magic products aimed at new players. In this case, Turtle Team-Up is a special set of decks that allow two players join forces against a “Boss” deck that plays automatically.
The general idea here that each Boss card gives unique powers to the creatures included in the Boss deck. Each Boss automatically plays an additional card each turn, and you’ll start off battling {one Boss|
