Government Official States Ministry of Defence Looking at Security Risk from Vehicles from China, as Staff Advised to Refrain from Confidential Discussions in Vehicles.

A defense official has revealed that the Ministry of Defence is currently looking into the potential threats associated with Chinese-made cars, while personnel have been instructed to refrain from discussing secret information in all vehicles.

Safety Guidance for Defence Personnel

During a recent interview on LBC, a defence minister commented on claims that Ministry of Defence officials have been instructed not to discuss classified material while riding in Chinese vehicles.

He explained that the MoD is “looking into” cars from China within its vehicle pools, however noted that safety is a issue in all modern vehicles.

We have a fleet of tens of thousands of cars in the Ministry of Defence and those vehicles represent a very small number.
But regardless of if you’re driving a vehicle from China or a non-Chinese car, what we’ve asked our people is not to plug MoD devices into their vehicle, to avoid having conversations at a secret classification in any car, due to the increasing threats of surveillance that are present in every single automobile, to restrict those confidential talks in secure locations. That’s a prudent and reasonable thing for anyone worried about safety.

When it was suggested that it would be prudent for the ministry to stop using all Chinese vehicles, Pollard replied: That is exactly what we’re investigating at the present time.”

Broader Security Context

This revelation comes as reports from Norway and Denmark have alerted the United Kingdom to the existence of dual-use shutdown mechanisms in Chinese buses, which could enable the Chinese government to disable public transport and bring chaos to public transit.

Furthermore, a Russia intelligence vessel was reportedly shining laser beams at RAF pilots, described as a “extremely risky” action by government representatives.

This broader security situation highlights the importance of strong measures and vigilance in all aspects of official activities, including vehicle usage to communication habits.
