Teenager Discovered Dead After Untrue Allegations of Taking Ashes
One 14-year-old boy was found dead only a few days following being wrongly blamed of stealing the ashes of a dead infant during a burglary, an inquest has learned.
Tragic Discovery
The young boy's mother and father discovered his remains in his bedroom at his Connah's Quay home on November 19th, 2021.
Untrue Accusations Start
The inquest heard how his mother received a message on 8 November 2021 via online platforms, from a individual asking if Kai was her child. The message stated: "Inform him appreciation for breaking into my flat."
In a testimony presented to the proceedings, the mother said the woman had been in the news, claiming her infant's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a claim which was false.
Law Enforcement Investigation
An investigation report from authorities later concluded the supposed burglary victim had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said property was never stolen in the first place".
Media reports about the alleged taken ashes attracted online comments, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his parent said people "knew it was him".
The "social media content were really distressing", she stated.
Emotional Health Impact
She explained that her son had been identified with mild attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and as part of that disorder, other peoples' opinions genuinely were important to him.
"This must have hurt him deeply," she commented, "particularly when this was untrue".
Kai was arrested at home, but nothing was discovered. He was transported to a law enforcement facility and later released under investigation.
Authorities said they would be in touch, the inquest heard, but had not contacted the relatives by the moment of his passing.
Isolation and Anxiety
His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "a minute could feel like much longer".
When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her child told her he had entered the residence because the woman who resided there had said he could utilize the toilet anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.
Digital Bullying
In a joint statement between her and her husband, Mrs Lloyd said her son was being bullied digitally after the allegations.
The proceedings heard that a young adult urged the teenager to end his life.
She had no concerns on the night before he died, describing how she had heard him "laughing and teasing".
She described him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "family is totally shattered".
He had been "clearly hiding his concerns", she stated, noting that he could not bear to have anybody "have negative thoughts of him".
Educational Reaction
The hearing heard from school personnel at the local High School.
On November 8th, she "overheard some students talking that the student had been arrested and that was the first I heard".
"He told me... he'd was innocent," she added.
After the conversation, the staff member said she called Kai's parents' telephone and provided a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.
The proceedings heard his parents said they did not receive that communication.
Official Finding
Lead coroner informed the inquest he would wait for documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.
Delivering a descriptive finding, he said: "Approximately November 8th, 2021, unsupported allegations were made against the teenager, a young individual.
"Likely untruths were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.
"On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was released while investigations continued."
The coroner concluded: "Exists no proof that the actions or omissions of any organization caused or contributed to his death and although it was the outcome of a self-inflicted action it is not possible to determine his intent."
