Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they announced in a statement.
Officers say they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Police then found many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to resolve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official commented the incident made him speechless and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of foreign heritage in 2020.
